9 Humorous Shunga From the Taisho Era
An amusing incomplete set (nine instead of twelve) from a series called ‘Iro kurabe (Lit. The Color Environment)‘ designed by an unknown Japanese artist, issued in the 1920s (Taisho era). The designs are rendered in a frivolous style with mainly encounters between young women and older males. The latter seem to have an “oral fixation” (their mouth agape).
‘A surprised man grabs his hat when he sees an intimate couple in the room. His mouth is completely open while he can no longer suppress an erection.’
‘An older male performs cunnilingus on a younger female.’
‘A man wearing a fox mask penetrates a woman in the streets during the Inari festival. The mask refers to this, since the fox is the spirit of the harvest god Inari‘
‘An elderly man sticks his long tongue into the mouth of a young aritsocratic woman‘
‘A geisha, her head resting on a takamakura (geisha pillow), making love to a middle-aged client‘
‘An unshaved older man imposes himself on a young geisha ‘
‘A man is scared out his wits when the woman suggests circumcision‘
‘An oiran and her client are relaxing after the deed‘
‘An almost bald man stimulated the private parts of the ecstatic geisha‘
