The paintings of the contemporary painter Sasha Podgurska unfold like a garden of soft colour and quiet intimacy. Filled with rose-tinted palettes, flowering motifs and languid female figures, her art occupies a space where sensuality merges with tenderness rather than spectacle. Instead of dramatic narratives or overt eroticism, Podgurska creates scenes that feel almost dreamlike, moments of stillness where the human body, nature and emotion seem to dissolve into one another. In this world, roses bloom beside reclining bodies, water glimmers nearby, and the atmosphere is saturated with a warm, blushing light. The effect is an art of sensual harmony: erotic without aggression, intimate without vulgarity, and always imbued with a feeling of gentle reverence.

Another Form of Breathing
At the centre of Podgurska’s visual language lies the feminine figure. Her paintings frequently depict women in states of relaxed nudity, lounging, dancing, or resting by the sea, their bodies luminous in a soft Mediterranean light. This seaside idyll is particularly beautifully captured in Fig.27., Fig.29., Fig.31. and Fig.37. where the women with sand-toned bodies are seen lying on the sand surrounded by blue and red seashells and stars, or enjoying the blue waters of the sea. Also, in Fig.36. and Fig.39., which also show nude women on the beach, the thick, Pointilist manner of painting is particularly interesting and unique. Overall, these figures rarely appear self-conscious; rather, they inhabit their bodies with ease, as if sensuality were simply another form of breathing. According to the artist, she seeks to portray “carefree life… in harmony with nature,” emphasising moments of connection between people, environment and the body itself.

A Vessel of Emotion
In her own words: “I’ve been painting since childhood. It began with fish and the underwater world — fluid, mysterious, alive. As I grew and travelled, my focus shifted toward more intimate themes: the body, emotions, femininity, love. From fish to Aphrodite — and since then, the image of the Feminine in all its forms has been at the center of my creative journey.
I never studied in art academies. I chose psychology instead. I attended art school only while it remained free and expressive — once it became structured and rule-based, I left. For me, art is not a system. It’s a living form. A way to stay connected to myself. A way to experience joy, love, and movement through life.
Canvas and oil are my foundation, but most of my works are mixed media. I intuitively combine oil with acrylics, watercolor, natural oils, and pigments. Recently, I’ve been exploring digital formats. I used to travel with a suitcase full of canvases and paints — romantic, but limiting. Now I’m learning to paint in motion, and to share that sense of movement.
The human body is central in my work — which is why nudity often appears. For me, the body is not provocation. It is attention. Admiration. A vessel of emotion and memory. A way to stay connected to life.
The most important theme in my art is love.
Love for the self. Love between people. Love for nature.”
