Being keen on kinbaku art here at the Shunga Gallery, we can't but mention the photography of the contemporary kinbaku master Suki Da ("I like you" in Japanese). Though this pseudonym becomes an obstacle when one tries to find any info on the subject, it still makes sense: the artist likes his models as he dresses their bodies in elaborate and elegant ornaments; at the same time, the photographer appreciates the audience because he considers us worthy of the best.

The Mysterious Compatriot of Tsukioka Settei
From Suki Da's personal site, sukidaart.com, and some art galleries like artmajeur.com, we know he was born in 1979 in Osaka (the city we primarily know as the place where the Shunga master Tsukioka Settei resided). According to the artist's portfolio, he's been exhibiting since his forties. His first international appearance happened relatively recently, in 2019 ("This is Lust" group exhibition at STRUCK Contemporary, Toronto). The same year, he registered an account on artmajeur.com to sell his works to devotees of erotic art. In 2022, this mysterious artist was honorably mentioned at the Monochrome Awards, was a nominee at the 17th Black & White Spider Awards, and a silver winner at the Tokyo International Foto Awards in the category "Fine art nudes." Among the passionate and productive young geniuses who operate their first cameras right from the cradle and love the attention of the press, Suki Da stands as a dark horse. Yet, the less we know, the more we appreciate.
